Jon Sumroy, CEO of mifold, found inspiration for this design from his own experiences. Living in the USA in 2000, he noticed that his children and their friends often lacked the appropriate booster seats when carpooling. This led him to envision a car seat so compact that a child could carry it in their school bag. Thus, the concept of mifold® was born in 2012.
What sets mifold® apart is its unique approach to child car safety. Unlike traditional booster seats that lift the child up, mifold® brings the seatbelt down. This innovative design makes it more than 10 times smaller than a regular booster seat, yet just as safe. It's an ideal solution for taxis, carpooling, rental cars, grandparents, and even for older kids who feel too grown-up for traditional booster seats.
The mifold® booster seat is composed of a variety of materials, including Aluminium (23%), Nylon (1%), Plastic Polymer (40%), Polyester (1%), Polyethylene (2%), Polyoxymethylene POM (26%), and Steel (7%). The compact design specifications are as follows: Product without Package: Length 254mm, Height 114, Width 38mm; Product with Package Length 279.4mm, width 182.8mm, Height 101.6mm.
The mifold® booster seat is not just compact but also easy to use. It holds the seatbelt down, eliminating the need for a bulky structure. This means it can fit in a glove compartment, a child’s school bag, or be easily carried on holiday. It's also a practical solution for grandparents who don't want their cars cluttered with bulky car seats.
The journey of mifold® started in 2012 in Raanana, Israel, and it was launched in 2015 through a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. The design has been showcased at various important shows, including the Kind Und Jugend in 2016, and has won the Nasa Brief Tech Award. The vision behind mifold® is to provide a child restraint for every child, in every car, on every journey, at every time.
For its innovative design and contribution to child safety, mifold® was awarded Silver in A' Baby, Kids and Children's Products Design Award in 2017. This award recognizes top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that exhibit outstanding expertise and innovation. The mifold® Grab-and-Go Booster seat® is a testament to Tiko Product Design Studio's commitment to designing solutions that make life safer and more convenient.
